Five More Fantastic Reasons To Choose Online Learning

In my last post, I gave you five fantastic reasons why you should choose online learning

If you’re still not convinced that online learning is just as effective as face-to-face learning, then read on as I give five MORE fantastic reasons why you should learn online.

You choose the teacher!

We've all taken a course where we've loved the subject and the course material but the teaching has been less than impressive or you just really clashed with the teacher. If you sign up for an expensive face-to-face course and you end up hating the teacher, then you are stuck with them! With online lessons, you often get the chance to road-test the teacher before you commit. If you don't get on, then you can try other teachers until you find the best match for you and your needs.

You pick the day and time!

Think back to the time (pardon the pun) when you thought you'd found the perfect course near you. The course looked great, and the location was convenient. Then you looked at the time and the date. Disaster! All of a sudden your dream course turned out to completely clash with your schedule. Maybe you work evenings, weekends or shifts and so typical college courses are just a pipe dream. Don't panic!  The answer is simple! Online learning is perfect for those with busy schedules.

Your online teacher can offer you flexible days and times based on your availability. For example, you can squeeze in a lesson while on your lunch break at work, or in the evening once the kids have gone to bed. Your day and time can even change from week to week, according to your lifestyle.

Beat the traffic and save money!

Picture the scenario. You've finished work and now have to get to your English class. You hop in the car and fight your way through the rush hour traffic and you hit all the red lights. Next, you get stuck in a massive traffic jam. When you finally arrive, you spend 10 minutes finding a parking spot. Realising you are late, you rush into the building and sprint down the corridors. When you finally make it to the classroom, you're so stressed out you can't focus on learning. It sounds like a nightmare, doesn’t it?

If you're using public transport, you first have to find a bus, tram or train running at the right time. Then you have to deal with problems such as delays and cancellations. Reduce stress and save precious time by learning online!

You can even save money too. With the cost of living going up, paying for more petrol or the price of a ticket is an added expense you could do without!

Learn in loungewear and not in a mask!

Let's be honest here, a socially distanced physical classroom with everyone wearing masks is a communication nightmare. If you're learning English, face coverings make it extremely challenging to hear the correct pronunciation. It's not just words that are muffled either! Being able to see a person's facial expressions is vital for communication. You get a lot of information about how people feel based on reading their facial expressions.

In a virtual classroom, masks are not needed. You can see the teacher's face on a webcam. It makes communication and learning so much easier.

What’s also great about digital learning is that you can be dressed in casual clothing, and sit in a comfortable chair with your favourite drink during your lesson. You will learn more effectively if you are relaxed. Learning online from the comfort of your own home is much nicer!

Greater accessibility!

If you have a physical disability, learning online can remove the barriers that you so often encounter when trying to access a physical classroom. Poor building accessibility, difficulties accessing public transport and problems finding disabled parking are all overcome with online learning.

The chances are, if you already use a computer, you will have some of the right adjustments set up at home that make online learning a logical choice. Also, your online teacher can utilise digital technology and tools to help you. A great example is the use of software that produces captions and transcripts for the deaf and hard of hearing. No more struggling to catch every word! You can even get a video recording of the lesson so you can watch it again.

Online lessons could, with the right modifications, be made fully accessible to learners with disabilities.
