English as a Second Language - CPE - Reading & Use of English - Part 6 - The History Of Sucrose Refinement - Paragraph Sequencing - Worksheet

The topic on my social media accounts this week has been "sugar". The emphasis has been on vocabulary related to sugar and idioms that mention the word "sugar". In keeping with the theme I have prepared a CPE resource that enables learners to practise the skills needed for part 6 of the Reading & Use of English paper. As I mentioned in my previous post, this part of the exam focuses on sequencing and text structure. Students need to be able to identify discourse markers, lexical and grammatical features that identify the correct order of paragraphs in a long text.

In the worksheet I have prepared about the history of sucrose refinement, students begin by reading the paragraphs which out of order and summarising what each paragraph is about. Step two requires the students to underline the grammatical and lexical features that indicate the correct order of the paragraphs. The final task involves students identifying the correct sequence of the paragraphs so that they flow logically and coherently. This exercise focuses on using dates and references to historical periods and eras as a means of determining the order of the paragraphs. In part 6 of the CPE Reading & Use of English paper students should look at dates, time references and tenses, all of which can indicate the correct paragraph sequence.

There are two versions, one without the answer key and one that includes the answer key.

  1. I am an active member of this website use of English geeks. This website is very common in the programming field by history homework help site as it has a lot of codes. A lot of programming information: if you are weak in programming, then you get a lot of help from there.
